Ghrist Landscaping is a second-generation family-owned landscaping company, with the third generation in the making. John Ghrist started Ghrist Landscaping in 1991, shortly after his son Derek was born. John unexpectedly passed away in 2017. After John's passing, his son Derek re-established the family business in May of 2019. Derek decided to re-establish the family business after doing small side jobs for family and friends, where he found his passion for landscaping again.
As a child and teen, Derek grew up working beside his father, John, learning the trade. The planting hand in our brand is in memory of John; it was a running joke that he had a hand from God when it came to plants. John's interest in landscaping started in the 1980s when he was working for the Ferry family on the side. In 1990, John started solely started landscaping and officially opened the business in 1991. John had a love for the outdoors and working with his hands.
